God Bless you Asheville Plumber! In these tough financial times, it's so refreshing to see a very knowledgeable professional giving advice out of your good nature and saving much needed funds to cash strapped people. I didn't know what else to try to fix my stuck InSinkErator 444-3. I followed your advice of using an Allen wrench, and that's all it took to get it back to life. Reconnected the power, did the ice cleaning and the device is working perfectly. Thank you so very much for your efforts to post this advice. Somebody up here in the Midwest is very grateful to you.
PS> If you add to the ice some spent baking soda (like the packages used to deodorize refrigerators), it will do a fine job of leaving the interior of your garbage disposal spotless, almost shinning! :)
Thanks again for your advice.

A breath of fresh air! My 444 wasnt working. I thought it might be the switch. I disconnected it and plugged it into another outlet and nothing happened. I thought I might have to replace it or call in a repair person. Checked online and Voila. Followed your instructions and all I had to do was depress the reset button on the bottom of the unit. Will try the ice cubes for smell and blade sharpening. How novel. Thanks :-)

The odor I get is only when we take a bath and drain the tub. Originally thought the odor was coming from the tub drain but that is not the case. When the water drains the odor (that smells like rotten eggs) is coming from the toilet. This did not start until we had the bathroom remodeled and put down a tile floor and had a new toilet installed. The first time t his happened the plumber came back and said the wax ring wasn't sealed. That helped for a while but now it's happening again. Someone told us to caulk around the bottom of the toilet and that should eliminate odor. Again, this doesn't happen when we take showers and the water is draining, only when the tub drains. Any suggestions?

Ok soo here's my probably maybe you might have a suggest for me, saturday morning woke up. To frozen pipes I live in a trailer my boyfriend got under the trailer and put heat tape. On the pipes it is sunday evening and there is still no water. But there is something the is in the center of the trailer that has electrical plugs on it and the a well insolated pipe running off of it I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the pipes or not.

I just installed one 6 weeks ago. I think the filter issue is hiding a defective control board. It should come today so I'll let you know. I can't get water hotter than 115 degrees even when I set it to 158. Its the board. Heard that that is an issue with the control board on this unit. Call State, they will send you a filter with a courser screen.
As far as your attic installation. Mine is in an attic as well. You will need to install what is referred to as a dump valve. It works as follows. If you loose power the following things happen, the water supply line shuts off, then 2 solenoids open and empty the water heater contents (supply and output sides). This will protect the heater and the water lines (at least on the downstream side of the valve). This setup will cost a few hundred but will protect not just the heater but the living space underneath. I would also advise to put the heater in a drain pan that is big enough to handle a major leak if all else fails.
